Theyyam, the son of a hunter
Vettakorumakan Theyyam is one of the important Nair theyyams in North Kerala.
This is a theyyam with Shiva deity. Legends of the Theyyas tell stories
intertwined with mythological characters and living warriors. That is the
story of a son of a hunter. The son of a hunter is the main idol of the Nair community.
Vettakkaramakan means the son born when he went hunting.
Vettaykkoru Makan temples are found in all parts of Kerala,
theyyam are only in Kannur and Kasaragod districts.
